Heat staking is the plastics equivalent of a permanent rivet and involves thermally softening a stake and forming a rivet-like retaining head under pressure using electrically heated thermode.
The stake is a low-cost yet integral part of the molding, and there is no need for any separate fastener.
This proves to be beneficial, as there are no foreign materials to remove or sort, which can prove costly.
Heat staking can be used to join two or more plastic parts of same or different polymers, metal with plastic , to hold electronic card to plastic body etc.,
